RADIOACTIVITY TO BE OR NOT TO BE!
Back in 2011 I had the chance to lay my hands on some old radioactive ceramic glaze which I intended to use for Bambi. Clearly, radioactive glazes are strictly forbidden nowadays. But this didn’t stop me. Eventually I went to pick up the bright orange glaze. When I saw that the liquid glaze was packed in an open marmalade jar without a lid, I came to think that this idea might not the best I’ve ever had. Nevertheless I put the whole thing in my backpack. On my way back home my brain finally kicked back in:
I was running around Vienna with radioactive material and nobody including me knew how dangerous it really was!
So I called a friend of mine (a physics teacher) and asked her if she could test the glaze for radioactivity. The tests results showed Alpha rays, and I got rightfully scold about being such a moron to run around with this kind of material in just a marmalade jar. After this I returned the color to its previous owner with a new lid and a lot of tinfoil layers wrapped around it, and got myself a nonpoisonous orange color which I still use.
